Premiering on Sunday 18 November 1973, this classic serial from the BBC – a follow-up to The Last of the Mohicans made by the same production team in 1971 – remained faithful to James Fenimore Cooper’s original novel, The Pathfinder.
He is subsequently known as "Hawkeye" and "La Longue Carabine" in The Last of the Mohicans, as "Pathfinder" in The Pathfinder, or The Inland Sea, as "Leatherstocking" (from which the series' title is drawn) in The Pioneers, and as "the trapper" in The Prairie.
