The seven episodes feature spy Nancy Wake, prison camp escapee Allan Yeoman, fighter pilot Jim Sheddan, highly decorated officers Charles Upham and Eric Batchelor, and pilots and prisoners of war Jack Rae and Geoff Rothwell. Kiwis at War was made by Wellington production company Gibson Group.
