Coroner. Charles B Greenlaw, Coroner of Calcutta. A coroner is a government or judicial official who is empowered to conduct or order an inquest into the manner or cause of death. The official may also investigate or confirm the identity of an unknown person who has been found dead within the coroner's jurisdiction.
A Coroner’s Inquiry (‘CI’) is an inquiry conducted by a Coroner into the circumstances leading to a death. It is governed by the Coroners Act (Cap. 63A) (“Coroners Act”), which came into effect on 2 January 2011.
