Ryan's Hope is an American soap opera created by Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer, airing for 13 years on ABC from July 7, 1975, to January 13, 1989. It revolves around the trials and tribulations within a large Irish-American family in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan , New York City .
Paul Avila Mayer created Ryan's Hope along with Claire Labine in 1975. He was with the show for the years that it won both of its Outstanding Daytime Drama Emmys and all six of its Outstanding Writing Emmys, and I believe the show won the Writer's Guild Award for Best Written Daytime Serial for each year during which he wrote for the show.
