May 23, 2016 · 23 May – Effective from 21 May 2016, Cathay cinemas in Malaysia have been rebranded as mmCineplexes, following the acquisition by mm2 Asia. Cathay Cineplex Damansara, the cinema located at e@Curve in Petaling Jaya, Selangor is now known as mmCineplexes Damansara PJ.
Responding to the changing economic environment by the 1990s; Cathay Organisation rationalised its cinema business, selling out their cinema operations in Malaysia. In Singapore, Cathay chose to move with the trends and operated only quality Cineplexes converting its stand-alone cinemas into multi-screens.
