Dec 9, 2020 · Kirkland makes its home on Lake Washington's shores, the largest lake in King County and the second-largest in the state of Washington. The lake offers stunning views of Mount Rainier to the south and Seattle and the Olympic Mountains to the west. The sunsets are spectacular.
Founded about 150 years ago by English settlers on what was once Duwamish tribal land, Kirkland began as a lakeside trade center to connect iron mining and steel production to the east and an easy freshwater passage to the sea in the west.
