NEWKIRK. Located in Kay County, Newkirk is situated on U.S. Highway 77, eight miles south of the Kansas-Oklahoma border. The town was platted in 1893 by the federal government as the county seat of "K" County and was originally named Lamoureux, for Silas W. Lamoureaux, commissioner of the general land office.
