Bonnétable (French pronunciation: [bɔnetabl]) is a commune in the Sarthe department in the region of Pays de la Loire, northwestern France. In February 1965, it absorbed the former commune Aulaines. [3] Bonnétable is twinned with Horncastle in rural Lincolnshire.
Bonnétable is located in the Sarthe, about twenty miles north of Le Mans. The town belongs to the Community of Communes Maine 301. Located on a swamp, the city established from the 11th century was called Malester (from the Latin "malum stabulum" ill prepared).

The Château de Bonnétable is a historic château that is located across the communes of Bonnétable and Briosne-lès-Sables, in the French department of Sarthe in the Pays de la Loire region. History. A fortified castle has existed in Malétable since at least the 12th century. The Lordship of Malétable belonged to the Rotrou family.
With large turrets and thick walls, the castle of Bonnétable also has beautiful gardens redeveloped at the end of the 19th century. Not accessible to visitors, it replaces a first medieval fortress from the 11th century.
