Bushy House is a Grade II* listed [1] former residence of King William IV and Queen Adelaide in Teddington, London, which Lord Halifax had constructed for his own enjoyment on the site of a previous house Upper Lodge, Bushy Park, between 1714 and 1715.
Bushy House is a classic example of the type of house that became fashionable in England immediately after the Restoration. Following Proger's death in 1713, the house fell into the hands of numerous dignitaries including Lord North, the Duc de Nemours and a future king of England.

Bushy House in its first form was built in 1663 by William Samwell for Edward Proger, at a cost of £4000 (equivalent to £437,000 in 2021), as the lodge of the Keeper/Ranger of Bushy Park in what was at the time the North Park part.
Seven were born after they settled in Bushy House in 1797. The King had given Bushy House to the always financially strapped Duke. Even so he needed help and Dorothea contributed to the upkeep from her own stage earnings as well as producing a further seven children.
