Sep 29, 2023 · From 1945 to 2010, this area was called Taipei County (台北縣). The county seat was in Banqiao district. In 2010, the county was elevated to the status of a city, so it now has a mayor, along with all the other things that come with being a city. New Taipei City spans a vast area (over 2000 km 2), but it is still not the largest city in Taiwan.
