The Ditch is a 2010 film by Wang Bing, based on a book by Yang Xianhui, that depicts the harsh life of prisoners in a Gobi Desert camp in 1960. The film, shot in secret and without official authorisation, shows the starvation, cannibalism and death of the inmates who were branded "rightist elements" by Mao Zedong.
