Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter was founded in 1928 by the world-renowned dancer, actor, and entrepreneur Irene Castle and her friend Helen Swift. Irene named Orphans of the Storm after her favorite silent movie by the same name, in which two orphaned sisters are reunited.
Orphans of the Storm offers a wonderful selection of cats and dogs ready to find their place in your heart and home. We offer a special adoption program to help more cats and dogs find loving homes. This program is designed to help older adults add a friend to their lives.
Orphans of the Storm is your community’s animal shelter. By volunteering your time and talents, you are helping to make a difference to thousands of homeless animals arriving at our door each year. Whether you’re walking dogs, cuddling kittens, or assisting with adoption events, your compassion directly impacts the animals in our care.
Donating to Orphans of the Storm supports our life-saving mission and, at the same time, truly makes a difference for an animal in need. Each donation is as individual as the person giving it. Neighborhood children hand-deliver a plastic baggie of change collected from a lemonade stand.
