Oz the Great and Powerful tells the story of how the great wizard Oz from the Wizard of Oz came to be. It follows the young Oz (James Franco) as he is swept away to an enchanted land ending up in the middle of a power struggle between three witches.
When Dorothy first arrives in Oz she meets the witch of the North first and Glinda at the end. The 1939 film combined the two witches. Oz the great and Powerful restores Glinda to being the Witch of the South with the witch of the North unknown/unmentioned in the film. Edit.
