The county was formed in 1806 from the western part of Lincoln County [3] and named for Colonel William Casey, a pioneer settler who moved his family to Kentucky in 1779. [4] .

Geography. Liberty is located in central Casey County in the valley of the Green River. U.S. Route 127 passes through the city, leading north 26 miles (42 km) to Danville and south 21 miles (34 km) to Russell Springs.
