Following the mantra, "if it aint broke, don't fix it"; Rolex made very few changes to this model, aesthetically. Mechanically, however, it was given an entirely new movement with the new Valjoux 727. The noticeable difference to this movement is the increase of the beats-per-hour from 18,000 to 21,600.
