  6. Battleboro came into existence about 1835. It was known as Battle’s Camp, taking this name from Joseph Sumner Battle who had a contract to build 8 miles of roadbed for the newly incorporated Wilmington and Weldon railroad. The name became Battle Station and the town was incorporated as Battleboro in 1873.
