The OPG is a Division of the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). The Office supports the Public Guardian in carrying out his/her functions. The Public Guardian carries out functions under section 31 of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) to enable and protect persons who lack mental capacity.

Oct 15, 2022 · The Office of the Public Guardian Online system will offer greater ease, convenience, and security for Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) applications. LPA allows an appointed person to make medical and financial decisions on another person's behalf should they lose mental capacity.
“Public Guardian” means the Public Guardian appointed under section 30(1) and, unless the context otherwise requires, includes any Assistant Public Guardian appointed under section 30(1A);
