The Gran Vía (Spanish: [ˈɡɾam ˈbi.a], Great Way) is a street in central Madrid, Spain. It leads from Calle de Alcalá, close to Plaza de Cibeles, to Plaza de España. The street, sometimes referred to as the "Spanish Broadway ", is one of the city's most important shopping areas, with a large number of hotels and large movie theatres.
Built between 1910 and 1929, Gran Vía is Madrid’s most famous street, connecting Salamanca and Argüelles and full of shops, restaurants and some of the capital's most iconic buildings.
Madrid’s Gran Vía is more alive and greener than ever before. Having undergone a vast renovation that was completed in 2018, it now boasts wider pavements which are perfect for window shopping and bar hopping as well as a bike lane that goes between Callao and Plaza de España.
