LaSalle or La Salle is a city in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States, located at the intersection of Interstates 39 and 80. It is part of the Ottawa, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. Originally platted in 1837 over one square mile (2.6 square kilometers), the city's boundaries have grown to 12 sq mi (31 km 2 ).

I gave this a Very Good rating but parts are really just "poor" as the gravel trail is not maintained well between Ottawa and Seneca - single bike path with weeds on path not mowed and high weeds close to the edge.

It lies on the Illinois River, about 90 miles (150 km) southwest of Chicago. With Peru (adjacent to the west) and Oglesby (southeast), La Salle forms a tri-city unit. The city was named for the French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, sieur (lord) de La Salle, who built a fort nearby in 1682.

Construction of the Illinois & Michigan Canal led to an increase in the population of the LaSalle area. Between the years of 1843 and 1848, the population had grown from almost 100 to 200 people. In 1851, residents of the area began to see a need for an organized government.
