During the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, aerial bombings were carried out against the second largest Yugoslav city of Novi Sad. According to NATO press releases, [1] the bombing targeted oil refineries, roads, bridges, and telecommunications relay stations, facilities which had military uses.

Some Jews from Belgrade seem to have settled at the foot of the later Petroraradin fortress in the 16 th century. Under Ottoman rule (16 th –17 th centuries) they were treated well and engaged in trade on the Danube.
