Irodori, a free Japanese language textbook created by the Japan Foundation finally made a full release of their textbook (before, the website only included all of the chapters as separate PDFs and some sections were missing). If you're looking for a free N5 or N4 resource, this is a good one.

Apr 13, 2022 · Irodori Anecdotes : Now this is where the festival shines the most. 4 anecdotes featuring beloved characters as well as bringing some head canonical elements to life. It's fun and funny without giving us much of a hassle other than going from point A to point B while making the festival livelier, not to mention the cute goodies as rewards.

It is thicker in no. of pages compared to marugoto, but the content is more or less the same... which makes it a legitimately good as a starter series. (I used Marugoto myself, since at the time Irodori was still half in the workings; but I glossed over Irodori when it came out to see the differences.

The course prerequisite is an introductory-level Japanese (knowing kana and basic expressions), which you can learn from the Starter textbook.

Apr 16, 2021 · 初級2 is probably only N4 grammar, but for Marugoto N4 is roughly equivalent to 初級2＋初中級 (Irodori won't have a pre-intermediate). But both Irodori and Marugoto use Can-do Syllabus, so it might not contain all JLPT grammar patterns anyway (it's not intended to).
