Pioneer Junior College (PJC) was established in 1999 and opened its doors to its first cohort of students on 2 January 2000 at a holding site located along Science Centre Road, under the leadership of its first Principal, Mr Kwek Hiok Chuang.
Founded in April 1981, JJ was the 9th junior college in Singapore. In the beginning, the campus had to be hurriedly put together and despite the conversions to house a junior college, “the facilities were grossly inadequate”, according to Mr. Koh Beng Thiam, JJ’s first Principal.

The JC curriculum is a two-year course leading to the GCE 'A' Level Examination, designed for students who wish to seek admission to a university or a specialised institute of higher learning, locally or abroad. At JPJC, we provide a wide range of subject combinations to cater to students’ personal interests, abilities and future career choices.

Jurong Pioneer Junior College is one of the five Ministry of Education (MOE) Language Elective Programme (LEP) Centres for Chinese. Students who are enrolled in the Chinese Language Elective Programme (CLEP) must take Chinese Language and Literature at H2 level.
