Plastering covers a range of types of surface preparation, where as skimming is just a finish coat ready for painting, plastering may be , straightening out a crooked wall before skimming, filling holes before a skim coat is applied, floating and setting over sand and cement, bonding, hardwall, and various other materials that all come under the the bracket of plastering.

Hi, I have been in the trade for 20 years, you could do both ways, but if it was me I would put a thin coat angle bead on the corner then do a full skim, no sanding after the work ready for painting or wallpaper.

Yes.Even if the tiles come off easily,what you will be left with will hardly be suitable for a paint finish.Its very unusual for tiles and adhesive to come off and leave a good,clean surface that only requires a bit of prep.

Some of them are around 1-2m long and some walls have multiple. Some of it is only noticeable when you get up close to the wall whereas others can be noticed from a far.

On block walls you would normally apply an under coat plaster and then skim on top, but this would require removing skirtings. The same would apply to one coat to obtain a good thickness (approx 8mm).
May 17, 2017 · Hello. Lining paper is a good method to rid of bad walls after stripping but no guarantees it will leave a completely smooth finsh. Alternatively to skimming the walls you could sand them all down apply a mis coat of paint and use a tetrion filler or better still use a gyproc dry wall cement to even out imperfections.
