The group behind it, Falun Gong, is actually very much not "China." They are a far right cult that is hostile to Chinese leadership/government. The Chinese government wants to shut them down (aka likely throw them in a re-education camp). That said, the Epoch Times/Falun Gong are terrible as well. Both parties here are hot garbage.
