Hal Blaine absolutely did. He said Karen Carpenter was a really good drummer, but didn't have the chops for the studio. That's not an insult. Studio drummers invent and compose those drum parts, the rest of us copy them. Big difference.

Not just a drummer, but an often overlooked, seriously good, drummer. No question, she is an INCREDIBLE drummer. On top of that, Karen Carpenter is possibly the greatest female pop singer of the 70s. I'm a Joni superfan and a big fan of Linda Ronstadt as well, but Karen's voice is something really, really special.

Karen is my favorite female singer. This is so awesome to find this community of Karen fans! I discovered The Carpenters at age 19, which was the same age that Karen started her career, and I've now been a fan for longer than they had their music career together. I feel like she's been my vocal teacher all these years.

I kind of heard of the Carpenters in passing, and I knew Karen died from complications from Anorexia at 32. But I never really listened to their songs, until now.
