Curved lines should be considered a sin in railway maps but it’s good that some of the lines over here are straight to make it easier for people to see. Yeah, for the most time while making the map it was straight like the official LTA version.

  2. MRT started in Nov 1987, and by 1988, it was fully functional. I took the ride on the very first day when it started in 1987, and the maps were printed without the East line. The first map indicates West and North lines. Fun fact : Teck Lee MRT Map is from 2005, which is roughly what pic 3 shows.

  5. Does anyone know why the maps in the MRT stations don’t consistently keep the north as “up”. Taken me by surprise several times trying to work out which exit to take, only to realize that north on the map inside the station isn’t up. And it’s not even consistent within station. Some maps have north going left, others right.

Noone else ever does this, there should be consistency in maps, up is north, down is south right is east, left is west. Why on earth is this not the case on Taipei MRT maps?

  10. Jul 3, 2023 · The MRT system is good enough for you to get to most places. For slightly further flung areas, the bus network helps to extend the reach. For any other place, you've gotta walk the rest of the way eg Coney Island There's always Grab, if all else fails. Google Maps works well here, timings are accurate enough.
