  2. Book Depository is the world's most international online bookstore offering over 20 million books with free delivery worldwide.

    • Book Depository – over 20 million books with free delivery. With a large, diverse, unimaginable selection of book titles and similarly eye-catching prices, it’s no wonder Book Depository is one of the most popular online bookstores out there.
    • OpenTrolley – largest Singaporean-based online bookstore. OpenTrolley is a home-grown online bookstore with a fast yet reliable delivery service.
    • Kinokuniya – English, Chinese & French fiction and Japanese manga. It’s hard to forget the memories of spending hours wandering around the gigantic Kinokuniya Singapore at Orchard, admiring the rows upon rows of books and sneaking in some time to read them at the store.
    • Books Actually – indie shop with Singapore literature. With a special array of books from local writers, poets and playwrights, Books Actually represents Singapore literature.
    • Wordery. Like Book Depository, this is a U.K.- based online bookstore with supposedly free global shipping. Alas, by “global,” they truly mean “fewer than 40 countries.”
    • Waterstones. I didn’t set out to include primarily U.K.- based bookshops, but best laid plans, right? Waterstones, and its academic and specialized cousin Blackwell’s, have huge selections, and they truly do ship almost worldwide.
    • Better World Books. Better World Books really seems to live up to the hype, and it has a decent chance of becoming my new online bookstore of choice. Based in the United States, it ships to a great deal of countries at either $1.49 for orders under $15, or free for orders over $15.
    • World of Books. If you love second hand books as much as I do, keep an eye on World of Books or, as its logo proclaims, Wob. It doesn’t ship worldwide, but it does offer affordable shipping to a decent number of countries, plus free shipping within the U.K., and it has a nice selection of over seven million books.
  3. Book Depository was a UK-based online book seller founded in 2004 and acquired by Amazon in 2011. It offered free shipping to over 160 countries and won several awards, but was dissolved in 2023.

  4. Apr 7, 2023 · Book Depository may have run its course, but the search for affordable books hasn’t. Here are nine US- and UK-based retailers delivering new, used, and even rare paperbacks to Singapore.

  5. UK-based global book-selling site Book Depository is closing down after almost 20 years. And while no official reason has been given, it’s safe to assume it’s related to parent company Amazon’s recent push of downsizing and “role eliminations”. After all, why operate two massive international bookstores?
