It's still where it was in previous versions of Word: In the Open dialog, open the Files of type dropdown and click Recover Text from Any File (*.*). Select the file and click the Open button. This will work only with Word 97-2003 (*.doc) formatted files, not with Word 2007-2013 (*.docx or *.docm) files.
Sep 3, 2015 · I just confirmed with this .WPS file that if you have a recent version of Office then Word can open old MS Works documents without any problems (for older versions of Office MS provided this converter once upon a time). Once opened in Word you can save .WPS documents in the new .DOCX format.
I successfully installed the file converter for Office 2003. When I launch Word to open a document from Office 2007, it asks me to download and install the file converter.

If you want to use a different application to open a PDF, right click a PDF file and select properties, then click the 'Change' button on the resulting dialog and from the resulting lists, set your preferred application to open PDF files.
Aug 8, 2023 · Picking one up on eBay not impossible for now. Either way, I still have access to 2010, 2013 and 2016 where the files in question worked; at least up to a point. Still, finding a computer to install it on is another story. Seems cumbersome. It would be nice to see MSFT have the VBA Converter Pack available.
