JET is the world’s largest and most advanced tokamak. Plasmas in JET are hotter than anywhere in the Solar System. Operated by Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, the Joint European Torus (JET) is the focal point of the European fusion research programme. JET was designed to study fusion in conditions approaching those needed for a power plant.
JET, the Joint European Torus, is EUROfusion's flagship device. It is housed at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, UK. JET is currently the largest tokamak in the world and the only one capable of operating with a Deuterium-Tritium fuel.
The Joint European Torus (JET), the heart of global fusion research at the UKAEA campus in Culham, UK, has concluded its operational journey with pulse number 105,842 on 18 December 2023. This final pulse marks a significant milestone, coming over four decades after JET’s inception.
Feb 8, 2024 · February 8, 2024. EUROfusion news. In a major scientific achievement, European researchers at the Joint European Torus (JET) facility have set a new world energy record of 69 megajoules released in sustained and controlled fusion energy.
The Joint European Torus (JET) was a magnetically confined plasma physics experiment, located at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in Oxfordshire, UK. Based on a tokamak design, the fusion research facility was a joint European project with the main purpose of opening the way to future nuclear fusion grid energy.
Feb 14, 2022 · JET—the Joint European Torus*, used by 4,800 EUROfusion consortium experts, students and staff from across Europe—has set a world record for the most energy produced in a single fusion shot, generating 59 megajoules** of heat from fusion reactions in a sustained manner.
