Feb 19, 2023 · The main weakness of Pimsleur in my opinion is that it keeps repeating the phrases again and again. This can be overkill depending on your learning style. I tend to get bored when I have to repeat and I chose to delete the Pimsleur app ASAP :) If you can manage the repetitions without getting bored, Pimsleur is great.
A few thoughts on Pimsleur: Try the subscription before you even think about buying the expensive full course! There’s no point to it unless you fully intend to speak up and respond to the prompts. Doing nothing but listening is a waste of your money, definitely go find podcasts instead.
Each level of Pimsleur French has about 300 new words. That should be a fairly strong A2 CEFR level after completing the Pimsleur program. Supplement it with a bit of grammar study and you'll have a great base to build on. I use pimsleur, michel thomas and Assimil. 10 votes, 19 comments.
Jul 5, 2022 · TLDR: Pimsleur is good if you are an active learner who can stick to daily lessons on a schedule. It teaches 85% grammar and the rest is vocab and pronunciation. Because of this, you will need to be supplementing it with an alternative way to gain vocabulary. The practice modes are polished and helpful.
The way Pimsleur works, it gets you adjusting to unique sounds in the language and practicing real life conversation scenarios from the start. So it really helps with actively recalling words in real situations and getting you more comfortable speaking (because you'll have previous conversation experience from roleplaying the different scenarios).
Sep 16, 2020 · For Pimsleur Russian 1-3, I did each lesson twice like you (new lesson in the evening, repeat early next morning while lying in bed). Pimsleur Russian was easy for lessons 1-10, but had me shaking and trembling in later lessons because of the relentless demand to reply in the brief time allowed.
Jun 15, 2020 · First, the Pimsleur lessons were not just 30 minute tapes I played and went through as quickly as possible. I found there was a lot of variability in how much new material they threw at me in some lessons, particularly in French 4 Lessons 21-30. Heads up to those currently taking Pimsleur French about that - be prepared to spend more time on those.
Nov 18, 2019 · I did the full German Pimsleur course. It definitely helps FORCING you to speak (which was my biggest hurdle learning a language). But it won't get you very far, and the stuff you learn is very contextual. You will definitely need to combine this with other sources of learning if you actually want to speak German. 2.
Aug 1, 2019 · Pimsleur explains very little of the grammar rules governing the phrases it throws at you to memorize, although you are given several examples of that sentence structure and I think the intent is for the learner to figure these out through multiple examples. Unfortunately, that’s not how I learn.
