  1. Sep 18, 2017 · Google Maps seems to be blocked by the Great Firewall ; I would like to avoid the use of a VPN ; I'm using an iPhone and Baidu Maps seems to be the more accurate choice, as well as the App Store description says that this app is also available in English. But even with English available, the app is always boot in Chinese.

  2. Bing Maps is a pathetic joke here and other places I've travelled to. Baidu Maps doesn't have an English option, doesn't seem to have a Current Location feature, and didn't even seem to have Mengla mapped! I'm actually at the green arrow but Google thinks I'm at the blue dot. This has been the case everywhere in China I've tried so far.

  3. May 27, 2017 · 2. While searching I came across OsmAnd maps. They offer offline maps and navigation, as well as a bunch of other features. OsmAnd served me well and I never had to look for a backup map. If you speak a bit of Chinese, you can also take advantage of Baidu maps (iOS, Android). These offer a fantastic navigation interface in a form of AR.

Of course, you have to be willing to actually for this a bit... and seeing that Baidu, unless I'm mistaken, is a search engine, I doubt user translations are even possible.

  5. May 26, 2024 · Baidu Maps might be a bit bus-crazy for this route. It loves showing buses (which take like 3.5 hours for this trip, yikes!), and trains might not be the first thing on its mind. But don't worry, trains are absolutely the way to go for Shanghai to Wuxi. Here's the lowdown on other options: BusTime required: about 3-4 hours

  6. Aug 22, 2019 · @WeatherVane I saw that topic, but I don't know whether that applies to the app only or to the web version also. I was able to install the app in English, but I wasn't able to switch the web version to English. –

  7. 3. Yahoo has been using Bing's search engine since 2009, only it's interface is different. Baidu also has a translator that does a pretty OK job with Chinese/English. Even better if you translate a tricky text in both and compare them. – hippietrail.

  8. Jul 15, 2011 · An answer five years later - and by now refering to downloading maps to smartphone: Baidu Maps. The best map for China IMHO is from Baidu, and this article describes an option to download maps for offline usage and how to use it. If you, like me, don't want to give the app every possible permission on your phone, an alternative is: Maps.Me

  9. Dec 9, 2019 · Simply enter your destination and location, click the mode of transportation (for buses and subway, choose 公交) and it will show all the available modes of transportation, route information as well as estimated arrival time. (Sometimes the 车来了 app does not show any incoming buses when the bus is still operating, I use the navigation ...

  10. Jan 17, 2017 · 21. While Google Maps may not provide offline maps for this area, OpenStreetMap has mapped Cairo pretty well. There is a large number of apps for offline maps based on OpenStreetMap. My favorite so far is Locus Map. Locus Map has different data sources, some allow downloading, some don't. "4UMaps" is one that works for Cairo.
