Jun 29, 2023 · The Quran tells us that Ishmael was a Prophet and a Messenger. He was a man true to his promise and enjoined prayer and charity on his family and his people. (Quran 19: 54-55) Isaac is considered a Prophet of God in all three Abrahamic faiths. Muslims respect and honor Prophet Isaac, as they do all the Prophets of God.
Nov 4, 2024 · Upon Abraham’s death, he left everything to Isaac, but Ishmael did help his half-brother bury Abraham (Genesis 25:9). Genesis 25:12–18 lists the descendants of Ishmael. They are indeed numerous, divided into twelve tribes, and, as God had earlier revealed, “They lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them” (verse 18).
Shortly after Isaac’s birth, people began referring to Ishmael as Hagar’s boy.9 The seed of jealousy and hate began to grow in Ishmael, corrupting him. When he was about 15, he brought idols into his tent and began worshiping them, mimicking the Canaanite neighbors.10 He would also go out into the field and and shoot arrows at Isaac, all the while pretending to playfully shoot birds.11
In Muslim tradition, Ishmael is the near-victim. Jews, Christians and Muslims all trace their roots back to Abraham—but not through the same son: Ishmael is the traditional ancestor of the Arabs, especially Muslims, while Isaac is the forebear of Jews and Christians. This is, of course, a simplified reading of the history of these peoples.
