Sang Nila Utama liked what he saw, and thought that the singa was an auspicious symbol. He decided to stay on the island and named the island Singapura, or Lion City. The prince caught sight of a magnificent and strange animal that he had never seen before. One of his advisors told him that this animal may be singa or lion.
