  1. Mar 31, 2022 · There are a few YouTube videos that test the read/write speeds of compact enclosures containing a single 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD connected via Thunderbolt 3/4 to an M1 Mac. Blackmagic's Disk Speed Test app is used for the tests, but it isn't always clear what stress level is being used, 1GB or 5GB. The 1TB SSDs used in the tests are by Samsung ...

  3. Nov 22, 2021 · USB-A can do up to USB 3.2 gen 2x1 (aka USB 3.1 gen 2). Some USB-A ports may be limited to USB 1.1 speed (1.1 or 12 Mb/s) or USB 2.0 speed (480 Mb/s) or USB 3.0 speed (5 Gbps) or USB 3.1 gen 2 speed (10 Gbps). It's the same for USB-C (USB-C adds the possibility for USB 3.2 gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) but Macs don't come with that or have drivers for it).

  4. Jun 30, 2021 · 4. Jun 30, 2021. #1. I have a Mac mini M1 (thunderbolt 4) as well as a MBPro 2014 (thunderbolt 2). I would like your recommendation for the following: - a monitor that is at least >20" that can pivot (V & h) that can be daisy chained using Thunderbolt 2/3 or 4. - a KVM thunderbolt KVM switch that can connect my M1 Mini and MBPro to the above ...

  5. Jun 14, 2022 · The same is true for the downstream Thunderbolt port when the upstream Thunderbolt port is not connected to a host - same as for the Mac mini 2018. I guess the difference is that a Thunderbolt 4 hub can connect a Thunderbolt 1 device to a downstream Thunderbolt port but a Thunderbolt 1 host cannot be upstream of a Thunderbolt 4 hub.

  6. Jan 18, 2023 · Jan 18, 2023. #8. mystery hill said: Total bandwidth of M2 Mac mini with two Thunderbolt 4 ports: 80Gbps. Total bandwidth of M2 Pro Mac mini with four Thunderbolt 4 ports: 160Gbps. More like 44 Gbps for M2 and 88 Gbps for M2 Pro since data is limited to ≈22 Gbps per port (or maybe 24 or 25 Gbps in some cases).

  7. Dec 11, 2022 · At 1.5 m, @BeatCrazy 's post suggests that the cable you bought was active, not a passive Thunderbolt 3 cable. However... even an 'active' TB3 cable is not the same as TB4 cable. A >0.8m TB3 cable must be active to support higher-speed USB, but then it loses backwards compatibility for data transfer with non-TB devices.

  8. Nov 5, 2023 · A Thunderbolt 4 dock connects to the iPhone as a USB-C hub, but it is smarter about how it connects the DisplayPort signals. The CalDigit Element Hub is a Thunderbolt 4 hub that can work as a USB-C hub and can allow connecting a USB-C display (it has no DisplayPort or HDMI port). A Thunderbolt 4 hub is basically a Thunderbolt 4 dock with fewer ...

  9. Oct 6, 2021 · To get 4700 MB/s to or from the NVMe device, you need a M.2 slot that supports PCIe 4.0 link rate (gen 4 in other words). To get that, you need a PC motherboard that support PCIe 4.0, or you need a PCIe 2.0 x16 or a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot with an installed PCIe card containing a PCIe 4.0 switch, such as the HighPoint SSD7505.

  10. Jan 28, 2020 · Thunderbolt ≠ USB. No version of Thunderbolt supports a hub topography. Thunderbolt is more like PCI bus; not really like USB. The confusing factor is that Thunderbolt 3 uses the same connector (but not cables) as USB-C. Thunderbolt 1 and 2 used the same connector (but, again, not cables) as mini-DisplayPort, FYI.
