Ashok Kumar (born Kumudlal Ganguly; 13 October 1911 – 10 December 2001), was an Indian actor who attained iconic status in Indian cinema. He was considered the first big star of Indian cinema as well as the first lead actor to play an anti-hero.
Later, he went on to become a noted film producer and it was Ashok Kumar who had introduced two another iconic personalities to the Indian Cinema: Dev Anand (Ziddi, 1948) and Madhubala (Mahal, 1949). His last movie as an actor was “Aankhon Mein Tum Ho” (1997).
