Jul 23, 2017 · \$\begingroup\$ @thedarkwanderer I'm pretty sure you can't walk to the Astral Plane in 5e. The Ethereal plane connects to all the inner planes (via travel), while the Astral Plane connects to the outer planes. The Astral Plane is a transitive plane in 5e. \$\endgroup\$ –
From the entry on the Astral Plane in the DMG: Astral Plane, DMG 47. Creatures on the Astral Plane don't age or suffer from hunger or thirst. For this reason, humanoids that live on the Astral Plane (such as the githyanki) establish outposts on other planes, often the Material Plane, so their children can grow to maturity.

Mar 28, 2018 · PHB shows which languages are spoken by which type of creatures. DMG talks about creating, or putting together, planes. The common language would depend on whose plane it is. For example if the plane in question is the origin of Demons the common language there would be Abyssal. Or Celestial for the dieties, Sylvan for fey creatures etc.

For example the FR wiki mentions: "Entering the Astral plane could be accomplished in one of two ways: projecting your astral form into the plane, or by physically entering the plane." The Astral Projection spell is an example of the former, while the Plane Shift spell (or a Bag Incident) are examples of the latter.

Feb 21, 2021 · In the spell description of Astral Projection (PHB pg 215) it indicates the following : Your astral form can freely travel through the Astral Plane and can pass through portals there to any other plane. However, in the Astral Color Pools table (DMG pg 47) there are no color pools leading to the the Elemental Planes (or the Shadowfell or Feywild).
