Feb 26, 2021 · Julia Duffy was a popular actress. She seemed like she'd be a good fit. The two together seemed like the mutual popularity would continue. However, this was not a Shelly Long/Kirstie Alley funny transition on "Cheers." Julia's character of self-centered princess worked well on "Newhart" but not so well on "Designing Women."
Oct 21, 2020 · October 24, 2020 3:10 PM. In all fairness to Julia Duffy, they just lifted her right off Newhart and dropped her into Designing Women. The rich bitchy girl worked in the environment of Newhart because she was a fish out of water (same template as Diane on Cheers).

Sep 3, 2022 · I'll be nice to R1 and politely explain that on the HBO television show Looking, Julia Duffy played the mother of the main character Patrick (who was played by Jonathan Groff). On a totally unrelated note, almost every time I read a post on DL that starts out with "You're a moron," I brace myself because there's a better than even chance I'm about to read something blindly stupid.

Nov 14, 2018 · The original cast from the first few seasons was the best. As the seasons dragged on and casts changed, Julia Duffy was very iffy, with occasional funny lines, but as someone said above, often seemed one-dimensionally mean. Judith Ivey was abysmal and completely unwatchable. (Jan Hooks was ok, but the show was a caricature of itself by that point).
Mar 8, 2012 · Joel Crothers was gay, sadly died from AIDS in the 1980's I think. But seriously folks, Frid is a fairy. The easier question would be, who wasn't gay on the Dark Shadows original series. Dark Shadows and Edge of Night were two of gayest sets in NYC in the 60s and 70s and that is saying a lot.
