Development
On January 29, 2021, it was announced that ABC ordered a pilot for 90s hip hop musical drama titled Queens from Scandal and Private Practice alum Zahir McGhee. On May 14, 2021, it was announced that the network has given Queensa series order for the 2021-22 season.
Casting
In February, Eve and Naturi Naughton joined the series as a leads. On March 1, 2021, it was announced that Tim Story is set to helm the pilot. In March, Pepi Sonuga, Brandy, Nadine Velazquez and Taylor Sele joined the cast as a series regulars. In September, Precious Way, Cam’ron and Felisha Terrelljoined the series in recurring roles.
