And for strings, there's not a lot that you have to avoid. Know the tunings of the strings, so you can avoid writing impossible double stops (two notes that must be played on the lowest string).

Dec 5, 2015 · Since the open, resonant frequency of the instrument is set in a "flat" key, music written in flat keys will sound more resonant than music written in keys that doesn't naturally resonant with the instrument (E major), thus, brass players see more music written in flat keys, thus, brass players favor flat keys. Sharp keys are harder to tune also.
Jan 15, 2021 · While written for organ, this is a foundational song in the Canadian Brass' brass-quintet repertoire and has been with them since they formed so it's obviously good for a small ensemble. Anything big like organ music will generally have lots of parts to choose from. Symphonies work really well too.

Most have a bell, but the sound of a flute comes from the mouthpiece area.Generally a brass instrument will sound harsher than one made from wood- the french horn being an exception - that's why it's 'allowed' into the woodwind (wind) quintet. –

A clarinet quartet may address four clarinets as well as a clarinet combined with a string trio. So you won't get much more precise than piece for two clarinets (which would still leave open, whether both are of the same variant as "clarinet in a", or whether it is for clarinet and bass clarinet.
