May 4, 2018 · “Racer and the Jailbird” (an inapt, frivolous English-language title; its French original, “La Fidéle,” is fine) is almost entirely about the formation of an attachment that can’t be walked out on, and how that complicates life for a criminal.
When Gigi, a member of a notorious gang, meets glamorous race car driver Bibi, they fall instantly and tragically in love. Gigi attempts to break away from his illicit history, but two things stand in the couple’s way: an unrelenting mob hungry for a heist, and the cops that are closing in on them.
