Ralph Steadman's Biography. Ralph Steadman was born in 1936 in Wallasey. One of his earliest memories is hiding in an Anderson Shelter during an air raid in WWII while his mother knitted. Before the end of the war the family moved to North Wales and ended up staying once the war ended in the North Wales town of Abergele.

Born in 1936, Ralph Steadman began his career as a cartoonist and through the years diversified into many fields of creativity. Artist, writer, sculptor, cartoonist and designer, he has illustrated such classics as Alice in Wonderland, Treasure Island and Animal Farm.
Alice in Wonderland. Beautifully illustrated in black and white, Steadman's anarchic take on Lewis Carroll 's Alice in Wonderland became an instant classic.
Steadman’s wry illustrations are both entirely surreal and endearingly honest. Made during a long residency stay with Peacock Visual Arts in the late 1980s these etching form part of a large suite that recognise writers of influence to Ralph.

The first venue sees us returning to the American University Museum at the Katzen Art Center in Washington DC from 7th September until 8th December 2024.
