Samuel J. Brown. Samuel Jesse Brown (October 3, 1917 – August 23, 1990) was a fighter pilot and a major in the United States Air Forces during World War II. [ 1 ][ 2 ] 307th Fighter Squadron. Brown commanded the 307th Fighter Squadron of the 31st Fighter Group between May and September 1944.
Samuel Joseph Brown Jr. (1907–1994) was a watercolorist, printmaker, and educator. He was the first African American artist hired to produce work for the Public Works of Art Project, a precursor to the Work Progress Administration's Federal Art Project. Brown often depicted the lives of African Americans in his paintings.
