  1. Bernie Calvert recently shared his memories of those glorious days when he was drafted into the Hollies in 1966 - while still working in a factory - just in time for the band to record one of its masterpieces, Evolution. As usual, we had to trim the original Q&A to fit the size of the CD's booklet.

I was there at the Singapore 1971 show but remember very little about it (laughed again!). They did Amazing Grace acapella, and there was a guy down at the front of the stage with a small box of tricks with a few sliders on it.

  3. May 4, 2004 · Post subject: Alan Coates. Lead Guitar. Joined: 17 Jan 2004. Posts: 996. Location: Melbourne Australia. Alan has been with the Hollies for over 20 years now but sadly I felt has never received the credit he deserves. Do others agree, I think we have always seen the Hollies as the members from the 60's and 70's and the others were seen as bit ...

  4. No one intentionally snubbed Terry, though he may think so. Tony and Bobby were not there because they were performing at the London Palladium that night and could not get out of the agreement. There was nothing personal intended at not having Terry perform. Bernie and Eric were not asked to perform, either.

There is a video on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show site which shows the Waterboys singing and playing Purple Rain live in the studio on April 1st. Lots of comments say that this version has the best violin solo ever.

  7. Jul 1, 2008 · I wouldn't go as far as to say Tony is the greatest guitarist ever, but he certainly is a superb all-rounder. Let's not forget his sitar/banjo/bass contributions as well. I'm astounded that he never had the notion to make a solo album or guest on more recordings by other artists. I guess he's happy enough with his lot!

  8. Location: Des Moines, Iowa USA. I believe the whole point of the Hollies Sing Dylan album was to showcase the wide variety of interpretive styles in which “Hibbing Bob’s” songs could be performed while at the same time, primarily through the lead and harmony vocals, making it clear this was a Hollies album.

  9. Feb 28, 2004 · I was just wondering if anyone knows if The Hollies ever appeared on Ed Sullivan. Strange to say The Hollies NEVER appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. Strange one the Hollies not being on Ed's show, pity as he did a lot for the English groups like HH, Freddie and the Dreamers and the Beatles etc. The Hollies were on Hullabaloo a few times.

  10. Dec 9, 2006 · I was shocked when I heard that Dave Mount, the drummer of Mud, died on saterday 3th december 2006. My sincere condolenses go to Dave' s family and his friends. Being a big Mud fan in the 1970s, I, too, was sad to read of the death of Dave Mount on 2nd December - it was not reported in the British press until 6th January, when an obituary ...
