  1. Feb 21, 2023 · Theo Angelopoulos is my No. 1 favorite director, and Landscape in the Mist is my No. 1 favorite film of all time! I have watched all of his feature films and didn't dislike any. He had quite a consistent filmography. However, his early works are more avant-garde and themetically obscure while his later works are more accessible.

  2. Nov 15, 2019 · Theo Angelopoulos: Five film recommendations. Theo is the most important and most artistically renowned Greek director who stands out for his stirring poetry, the sensorial completion of his films, his visual takes, the existential depth of his films, the combination of theater, cinema and many other forms of art and of course his personal eyeful of history.

  6. Mar 1, 2023 · Huge Theo Angelopoulos fan here. 'Landscape in the Mist' is my No.1 favorite film of all time and it's also his easiest movie to watch in my opinion. All of his films comprise of slow long takes with abstruse narrative and lots of symbolism. If you're not into this type of film, it's difficult for you to enjoy his works.

  7. Dec 4, 2021 · Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos was fantastic, made several enormously influential films, and would in my opinion be perfect for The Criterion Collection. 4k-restorations (whether released on 1080p or 4k) of his major (and minor!) works would be much appreciated. As far as I know, they're not available in the US, and in the UK, only on old ...

Unfortunately, Greek films are not on easteuropeanfilms nor on Criterion and in my country, I didn’t find available dvd copies and buying one from abroad would cost me a lot.

  9. Mar 28, 2022 · Angelopoulos is the film director who found the most critical success outside of the country, frequently lauded one of Europe's greatest moderns. (I'd say, rightly so!) He even got international stars to play lead roles in his later films. So maybe Angelopoulos is something of a cultural hero to expatriate Greeks - not to mention, for Greece ...

  10. Jul 31, 2019 · In my opinion, auteurs like Bela Tarr, Theo Angelopoulos, Lav Diaz, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Carlos Reygadas, Jia Zhangke, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Alexei German, Alexander Sokurov and Terrence Mallick hold their own against the greats of the yesteryears. There are, probably, two reasons for that:
