Tony Tan Keng Yam DUT GCB (Chinese: 陈庆炎; pinyin: Chén Qìngyán; born 7 February 1940) is a Singaporean banker and politician who served as the seventh president of Singapore from 2011 to 2017. Prior to entering politics, Tan was a general manager at OCBC Bank.
Tony Tan Keng Yam (Dr) (b. 7 February 1940, Singapore–) was the seventh president of Singapore (2011–17).1 After a career in banking, he entered into politics in 1979 and served as a minister in the cabinet, holding at various times the portfolios of education, defence, finance, health, and trade and industry.
Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam has served as the Minister for Finance, Trade and Industry, Education and Deputy Prime Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for Security and Defence. He was the Chairman and CEO of OCBC Bank from 1992 to 1995.
