Nov 21, 2012 · Union libre seems to be something like "common-law marriage", that is to say a relationship where a couple live together without being in a marriage or civil partnership. It is not in fact recognised by English law, common or otherwise! (Compare this with #2.) It's the status "concubinage" that has no clear English equivalent.
