  2. Fairbanks North Star Borough comprises the Fairbanks, AK, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is one of only two metropolitan areas in Alaska. The borough is home to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base.
