    Lower Hutt (Māori: Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai) [4] is a city in the Wellington Region of New Zealand. Administered by the Hutt City Council, it is one of the four cities that constitute the Wellington metropolitan area.   5. In all, Lower Hutt is New Zealands seventh most populous city. It extends from the slopes of the hills on either side of the valley north from the beach at Petone to the Taita Gorge, where Lower Hutt becomes Upper Hutt, and around the eastern headland of Wellington Harbour to Pencarrow Head.
