Claremont McKenna College began as Claremont Men's College in September 1946 with a founding class of 86 students and seven faculty. Many of its first students were veterans of World War II attending college on the G.I. Bill. Claremont Men's College was the third Claremont College, following Pomona College and Scripps College.
