Eugene Sands ( David Duchovny) is a former surgeon, now a druggie, who's in a scuzzy bar looking to score synthetic heroin. Shabby as he looks, he attracts the eye of a dazzling woman across the room--but then shots ring out and a man is gravely wounded. Sands argues, not unreasonably, that someone should call 911.
Stripped of his medical license after performing an operation while high on amphetamines, famed LA surgeon Dr Eugene Sands abandons his former life only to find himself crossing paths with Raymond Blossom, an infamous counterfeiter.
A decertified surgeon (David Duchovny) accepts a job as personal doctor for a Los Angeles mobster (Timothy Hutton) sought by the FBI.
